Marina Marlin Cayo Largo
Isolated southern cay with its own airport and clearance.
On the low, sandy island of Cayo Largo del Sur, off the south coast in the Canarreos archipelago, this marina has its own clearance facilities and an adjacent airport, so vessels can enter Cuba here far from the main island. The cay is ringed by some of the country's most celebrated white-sand beaches and turquoise shallows, and is largely given over to tourism rather than towns.
Cruising grounds
Cayo Largo is the eastern anchor of the Canarreos, a string of uninhabited cays and reefs stretching toward the Isla de la Juventud. Protected water, coral gardens and sandbars make it a classic light-air cruising and snorkelling ground, though the isolation means provisioning is limited to what the resorts supply.
Getting there & what’s nearby
There is no road or ferry link — the cay is reached by air, with its own airport (CYO) taking flights from Havana and Varadero. Ashore, the draw is the beaches (Playa Sirena and Playa Paraíso) and a turtle sanctuary rather than any settlement.
Sailing season & conditions
Among the low Canarreos cays the sailing is classic light-air Caribbean cruising over pale shallows, with the barrier reef damping the ocean swell and the trade winds giving steady but usually moderate breezes. The flat, protected water is inviting for much of the year. The catch is exposure and isolation during the June-to-November hurricane season — the cay is low and remote, with no natural storm shelter and only what the resorts can supply — so cruisers avoid the peak months and keep a close eye on the tropics.
Clearing in here
Marina Marlin Cayo Largo is a designated port of entry, so private vessels can complete customs, immigration and Guarda Frontera formalities on arrival. Read the clearance roadmap and maritime formalities before you sail.
