CubaAtlas Maps Hotels, Restaurants and Car Rental Across Cuban Cities
CubaAtlas has expanded its interactive atlas with city-level service directories — hotels and casas, restaurants and paladares, car rental and things to do — each plotted on the map so travellers can see what's near their base, city by city, instead of judging a listing in isolation.
The new directories break each service down to the city level, producing pages such as Hotels in Havana, Restaurants in Trinidad and Car rental in Varadero across the country's main destinations. Each pairs a plain-language introduction to the city — its province, its character and what to expect of that service there — with real, mapped listings that draw on the atlas's live data.
The expansion reflects how the project believes people actually plan. "Travellers don't plan in the abstract — they plan around a place they'll actually be," a project spokesperson said. "Mapping services by city means you judge a base by what surrounds it, not by a listing in isolation. Seeing that a casa is a two-minute walk from three good paladares tells you more than any star rating."
One map, every layer
The service directories connect to the atlas's Hotels, Restaurants, Car rental and Things-to-do map layers, which can be stacked with beaches, national parks and transport to build a complete itinerary on a single map. A visitor can open a city's hotels, add its restaurants and the nearest beach, then bring in car rental and the closest airport — assembling the practical shape of a trip in one view.
As with the rest of the atlas, the listings are drawn from open data and curated references rather than paid placement, and the project takes no bookings and no commissions. The directories are informational: they show travellers what exists and where, and leave the choosing to them.
What the directories cover
The directories span the country's principal destinations — among them Havana, Varadero, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, Santiago de Cuba, Camagüey, Holguín and the northern cays — across four service categories: hotels and casas particulares, restaurants and paladares, car rental, and things to do. Each city page opens with context specific to that place, so the introduction to hotels in a colonial city, where casas particulares dominate, reads differently from the one for a beach resort built around all-inclusive properties.
The listings themselves draw on the atlas's live data and open sources, so the directories reflect what is actually on the map rather than a fixed, ageing list, and each page centres the live map on its city so a reader can move from the written overview to the plotted reality in a single click. The project notes that coverage will deepen as the underlying open data does, without the structure of the pages changing.
Availability
The city-level service directories are live now across the main destinations and in all seven supported languages, free and without registration, each linking directly into the live map opened on that service and centred on the city.
