Mella es un municipio de alrededor de 35 mil habitantes situada en la provincia de Santiago de Cuba. Fue fundado en 1976, al realizarse la nueva división política-administrativa del país, con una extensión superficial de 335,7 km². Los centros poblacionales colindantes son Chaveco, que anteriormente pertenecía al municipio San Luis y actualmente pertenece al municipio Palma Soriano, Alto Cedro y San Germán de la provincia Holguín.
