Lost passport in Cuba

General orientation on who to contact and in what order. This is not legal advice and does not replace your embassy’s instructions.

We cannot promise a timeline or a fee

Replacement times and costs are set by your own government and vary by nationality and circumstance. Anyone guaranteeing you a specific turnaround is guessing. We also publish no Cuban immigration office address, because the official source is currently unavailable.

Where to go right now

Confirm current procedures directly with the appropriate official authority — your own embassy for the document itself, the Cuban authorities for your status while you are here.

Order of steps

  1. 1Contact your own country's embassy or consulate in Cuba

Your passport is issued by your own government, so replacement travel documentation comes from them — not from the Cuban authorities and not from CubaAtlas. This is the first call to make. If you do not know where your embassy is, your foreign ministry's travel service will tell you.

  2. 2Report the loss where required

A police report is commonly requested when a passport is lost or stolen. Keep the report details — reference number, date, place, and the name of the office that issued it. Your embassy will usually ask for them.

  3. 3Contact the Cuban immigration authority

Procedures inside Cuba involving a foreign national's travel documents are handled by the Dirección de Identificación, Inmigración y Extranjería. We do not publish office addresses because the official source is currently unavailable — your embassy will direct you to the correct office.

  4. 4Obtain replacement travel documentation

Your embassy or consulate issues an emergency travel document or replacement passport. We do not state a timeline or fee: those are set by your own government, vary by nationality, and we have no authority to promise either.

  5. 5Tell your airline or carrier

If your travel document number changes, your booking may need updating before departure. Contact the carrier directly as soon as you have the new document.

  6. 6Keep every official record

Police report, embassy correspondence, the replacement document, and any immigration paperwork. You may need them at departure.

Important distinction

Your embassy

Issues your replacement passport or emergency travel document. Start here.

Cuban immigration (Extranjería)

Handles your immigration status in Cuba while you are without a document, and any exit formalities. It does not issue your passport.

The Cuban mission directory lists Cuban missions abroad. It does not list your own country’s embassy in Havana — for that, use your foreign ministry’s travel service.
