Cuba, place by place

The map above is the same record the rest of CubaAtlas is built on: 1,769 places across 16 provinces, 15 airports with scheduled service, plus restaurants, places to stay and everyday essentials drawn live from OpenStreetMap once you zoom into a street. Pan it, switch layers, and anything you like goes straight into your trip without leaving the map.

Using the interactive 3D map of Cuba

Switch between four views. Explore is a clean map of places. Satellite shows Esri imagery with labels on top. Terrain 3D tilts the map so real elevation reads as relief. Live adds storms, earthquakes and recent wildlife observations over the satellite view. A fifth view, Trip, shows the places you have saved.

Drag to move and scroll or pinch to zoom. Tilt and rotate with a right-click drag on a computer or two fingers on a phone. The compass shows direction and resets the view, the 3D button switches the tilt on and off, and the globe button switches between a flat map and a globe at the widest zoom. Search finds any place by name.

Layers cover beaches, cities, hotels, restaurants, airports, ports, national parks and activities. Car rental, churches, marinas, pharmacies, clinics, fuel and banks appear once you zoom in, and a directory of hospitals, schools, museums and more is drawn from OpenStreetMap.

Elevation comes from Mapzen Terrain Tiles on AWS Open Data, satellite imagery from Esri, Maxar and Earthstar Geographics, and street-level places from OpenStreetMap contributors. Storms come from the NOAA National Hurricane Center, earthquakes from USGS and wildlife from iNaturalist. Live layers show detections and observations, not forecasts or damage reports, and a layer shows as unavailable when its source cannot be reached. The enhanced-relief setting exaggerates elevation, which Cuba does not have; Data Saver and Battery Saver turn terrain off on slower devices.

What you can explore

Only on the map

These three have no directory page because there is nothing to list until you arrive somewhere: they are live OpenStreetMap layers that resolve once the camera is at street zoom.

Every one opens a full page with its geography, nearby places and sources — or find it on the map above.

Live layers

Live mode shows recorded earthquakes (USGS), active tropical systems (NOAA National Hurricane Center) and recent wildlife observations (iNaturalist). These are observations and detections — an earthquake marker is not a damage report, and a wildlife pin is not proof the species is there now. When a feed returns nothing, the layer is empty rather than filled in.

Sources and freshness

Basemap from OpenStreetMap via OpenMapTiles and OpenFreeMap; satellite imagery from Esri. Places come from the CubaAtlas atlas record and from OpenStreetMap for on-the-ground detail, each marker carrying its own source and the date it was last checked. We show no opening hours, phone number or price we cannot attribute.
